Air conditioning is a heat pump. In summer it moves warmth out of your rooms; in winter it runs in reverse and brings warmth in. One tidy unit on the wall, both jobs, all year, from your phone or the dial.
Cool in summer
Set it to 21°C on the hottest day and it holds there: quiet, even, and dry. No portable units cluttering the room, no broken sleep.
Warm in winter
The same unit heats as well as cools. Switch it to warm and a room is cosy within minutes, so it earns its keep in January, not just July.
Cheap to run
A heat pump moves warmth rather than burning energy to make it. Depending on the system and how you use it, you get roughly £3 to £4 of heating or cooling for every £1 of electricity, often about a third of the running cost of electric heaters.
